The main effect of cutting down too many trees for lumber, paper, housing, or for whatever reason is deforestation. Deforestation is essentially a transformation of a forest area to a place or terrain that has little or no vegetation.Effects of Deforestation
Deforestation has many ill effects to the world that we live in. Some of the most notable ones are:
1. Loss of Biodiversity
Deforestation can lead to the to many animals losing their homes. Experts say that more than 80 percent of the world's species live in the Rainforest. Because of deforestation, it is said that we are losing about 50 species of animals per day.
2. Climate Change
Trees absorb Carbon Dioxide and make oxygen for us. Less trees mean more carbon dioxide will remain the atmosphere and, rotting trees will give off more CO2. This can result to a change in temperature. Places that are cool can get hotter and vice versa.
3. Soil Erosion and Floods
In places like the tropics lands that have been deforested exposes the steep mountain hillside. With the lack of trees and their roots to hold the soil in place, high rainfall can lead to landslides. This landslides can destroy fields, houses and can claim human lives.
