Latin American music and dance genres are popular for their paired dances with a fast and slow rhythm of music. But these music genres were influenced by the music and dance forms of the African diaspora. It also influenced Caribbean music genres. African music provides the foundation of musical tradition behind African American music.

African music influence was introduced by the Africans who traveled from Africa to other parts of the world, both as a result of African slave trade and later migrations.
